This is a large and massive house. The influence by Walter Burley Griffin on Van Bergen seems to re-appear for the design of this edifice. There is a large addition on the left side (as seen from the street) that is sympathetic to the original architecture. An interesting deviation from Van Bergen's other houses is the use of stone all the way to the eaves instead of changing the treatment of the facade at the second story sills. The only other time he did this was on his own house on Cedar.
