This one story house was originally designed with common brick exterior walls and flat ponded roofs. The roofs could be flooded to assist in hot weather cooling through evaporation. There are now pitched roofs that were added by the second owners because the original flat roofs leaked in many places. There is a greenhouse attached and an original attached 2 car garage. The separate building (a workshop) is a later addition by the second owners. The common brick exterior walls were originally unpainted. Inside, there is the curved fireplace which is the central focus of the living room. There is much built in storage and cabinetry. The kitchen is still almost entirely original except for newer appliances. The heating was originally radiant hot water under the slab. This house stands on 5.5 acres of land on a slope looking down into a man-made pond. Van Bergen's own home next door at 334 Old Sutton Road was his last home in Illinois.
Alterations: Gabled roofs over original flat roofs. Bedroom and bath wing added on front of house, 2 story observatory being built next to house. Original interior mostly unaltered. The common brick outside walls are now painted.
Some original blueprints exist.
