Known as the most modern house in Glen Ellyn and the vicinity during the period, this building stood out in the neighborhood for many years. The house has now been altered a few times and no longer resembles Van Bergen's original design. It is now remodeled into a colonial with a gabled roof added. The house was an unique combination of architectural elements used by Van Bergen in other designs. A two-story cubic structure with a basic "square" plan, borrowed from Van Bergen's earlier years, there was also a flat "ponded" roof which Van Bergen employed in a few later designs. The exterior treatment was wide redwood lapped siding up to the second floor with stucco above. Casement windows were used throughout with a corner picture window in the second floor rear master bedroom.. The Spahrs had this house built after selling their first Van Bergen designed house, a few blocks away on High Road.
