The Kerns were old friends from Highland Park. The designing process was brought to completion. Specifications were done and estimates from contractors were obtained by Van Bergen. From existing documents, it seems that the deal to build the house fell through. Both parties hired lawyers and some kind of settlement was reached.
The site that was chosen was adjacent to the Van Bergen's own house on a parcel that they owned. It seems that the Van Bergen's (as in Lake Zurich and in Barrington) bought extra land with their home to subdivide later and sell lots with Van Bergen designing the homes. There is a house on this property today but it is not known if that house is this design.
