Van Bergen lost this commission to William Drummond. Commonwealth Edison has substations scattered throughout the city of Chicago. Many are out in the open. Many others are surrounded by a facade which hides the unsightly transformers from public view. Some of these on the north side of the city have a "Prairie" style facade with some interesting brick patterns and tile insets. |
