Commonwealth Edison Substations - Project
ca. 1915

Van Bergen lost this commission to William Drummond.  Commonwealth Edison has substations scattered throughout the city of Chicago.  Many are out in the open.  Many others are surrounded by a facade which hides the unsightly transformers from public view.  Some of these on the north side of the city have a "Prairie" style facade with some interesting brick patterns and tile insets.
