Correspondence, 1914-1919: Artist Commissions and Sale of the House
Letter from Richard W. Bock to William Gray Purcell (April 1, 1915)
My dear Mr. Purcell,
Your past communications and checks were duly received and appreciated. My funds I regret to say are very much depleted besides having an unexpected operation bill to meet so that your check for the balance at this time would be very much appreciated. You will kindly excuse this statement as you understand an artist's circumstances.
Perhaps you have already heard that I had a duplicate of Nils on exhibition at the Art Institute [1] and has been greatly admired. Of course, it is the most original thing there but seemed to be exceedingly popular and very much enjoyed by everyone.
I am, very truly yours, Richard W. Bock (signature)
