Watson, an artist and art scholar was closely associated with the Art Institute of Chicago. He was a close friend of the Van Bergens (he lived right across the ravine from them) and of Jens Jensen. The original structure is said to possibly been by designed by architect, Lawrence Buck, who lived across the street. According to permit records, the original house was commissioned by Moses in 1926. Then in 1940, an addition commissioned by Watson was the second story living room with fireplace and the garage below it (at the far left in photo).
