This house sprawls across the site with views looking down onto the lowlands below. At this time, the house survives in its original design except that the buff colored exterior stucco has been painted white. Mr. Schwefer owned a large bakery company in Chicago. He bought a large tract of land in this unincorporated area and found Van Bergen, whose property was adjacent, who he then commissioned to design and build a house. The multi-acre property has recently been subdivided and other homes are being built.
