The original buildings were two one-story buildings designed by Irving and Allen Pond. Van Bergen's additions, including the Main Building, the Gym (see photo) are very complimentary to the original architecture. The largest additions were designed in 1937 by Van Bergen, (with the help of architect, Walter Sobel, who would later become a noted architect in his own right) and are very complex. Something I'm sure that most of us have not seen the likes of before, is the large fireplace in the gymnasium. This fireplace, set into an alcove, complements the beamed ceilings and the divided light windows of the gym. Van Bergen's blueprints and presentation drawings still exist along with Pond & Pond's original blueprints. In 2000, a new addition by the architectural firm of Perkins and Will has replaced one of Pond & Pond's classroom wings. It is an excellent job - reproducing the original design, but it is larger, adding much more needed space to the school. Another 2000 addition mimics the Gymnasium building and houses a new lunchroom.
