Van Bergen designed this one story "Prairie" house for the Kopplins when he was already living in California and they were settling down to raise a family in Minnesota. Joan is Van Bergen's younger daughter.
Situated next to Ripley Lake, the plan of this dwelling is a modified "L" with the main section including the entry, powder room, living room, dining room, kitchen and breakfast area (with the two car attached garage off the kitchen) - and a bedroom and bath wing.
Since the Kopplins have moved away, the house has been greatly altered with a second story added. Drawings are dated September 16, 1956.
