Hired by owner Jim Gildea, this was a big project for Van Bergen. It included much structural work on the existing building as well as new additions. All interiors were remodeled as well. Gildea wanted a penthouse on the fourth floor of the structure, but after many revisions by him and Van Bergen, this idea was abandoned. Most of Van Bergen's work itself has now been altered.
The motel is now part of a national chain and the restaurant is now called the "Harborside". It is across the street from the ocean front and the Santa Barbara harbor.
