Project:  Santa Barbara Airport Terminal - 1957
Santa Barbara, California

Van Bergen wrote in 1967; "The model for the Santa Barbara Airport Terminal burned in our fire so I only have these photos to indicate my design.  the whole project is heavily entrenched in cheap politics and I doubt that my design or our report will ever come to light again.  That's the way it goes!"
Van Bergen was commissioned by the
West Coast Planning Consultants which were in turn commissioned by the city of Santa Barbara.  They produced a  111 page report titled, "A Master Plan for the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport".
The description of the building starts on page 62 of the report:
          "
In making the design for the Terminal Building, Mr. Van Bergen has made personal studies of several existing modern California terminals and has discussed terminal and administration procedure with their officials and with those in charge of the Santa Barbara operations.
"He has also studied the theory and plans of new airport buildings in various other parts of the country.  With his background of years of experience in the design of modern functional buildings, the plan he has conceived is in line with the latest theory of terminal design, but has in it incorporated the practicality of actual airport experience."
