Re:BUILDING
A Preservation Newsletter
(formerly the "Van Bergen" Newsletter)
Volume 14 - January 6, 2003
Published by Martin Hackl, Oak Park,

Hi All,
This is the first full issue of this Newsletter in this form. For those who remember my older "Van Bergen" Newsletter, this is just a new electronic version with new name. Because it is basically a revival of the old Newsletter, I'm continuing the series numbering, therefore, this is issue # 14. Though I still am focusing mostly on John Van Bergen's architecture in this issue, I would really like to broaden the focus in the future.
Since it's been about a year since my last Newsletter, there's a lot to cover. In this issue, I'd like to fill you in on a few of my own completed projects since that time.
The clever, and I think, appropriate title, Re:BUILDING was suggested to me by Daniela Ghertovici. Thanks Daniela.
I am pleased that so many have reprimanded me about discontinuing the old Newsletter. Due to time considerations and the expense of producing, printing and mailing, etc. of the older article, I had to put things on hold for awhile. I apologize. I'm hoping that this newer electronic venue, via the Internet can make it easier to reach a wider audience.
I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!
Here is the mission of this Newsletter:
This Newsletter will contain content related to Architecture and Historic Preservation. Other than just being a vehicle for my work and interests, I want it to include many other things pertaining to buildings, construction, furnishings, related artwork, technology, I would like to include items about your own architecture or projects, etc., that you would care to share with (hopefully) a very wide audience. I need your help!! I intend to provide a combination of in-depth issues and very timely, shorter Newsletters - as events take place.
Your help in many other ways is very important to me. It would enhance this project if as many people as possible would send me the following:
News items relating to preservation.
News of preservation battles in progress.
Articles or descriptions (and photos) of your own projects.
Good links to related web sites.
Notification of historic or architecturally significant buildings on the market.
Notification of planned demolitions of important structures or sites.
Names and e-mail addresses of others to help expand the project. (And forward this Newsletter on to others.)
Your personal news in the field.
