FIRST NATIONAL BANK, Graceville, Minn. (J. A. McRae)

This amusing little farm town on Big Stone Lake had a bank that was doing business in one of the most antiquated and offhand rooms I have ever seen devoted to that purpose. Its atmosphere was a combination of farm kitchen and railroad freight office. McRae was a very delightful Scotchman--sincere, good-natured and appreciative. He saw at once that we were not going to dress up his bank in some glittering form that would make his simple customers feel strange and be out of place among the other stores of the town. We made a very practical layout, developed simple furniture and fixtures for him, all at nominal expense, and he was well pleased with the result.
