THEODORE H. BEAULIEU, White Earth, Minnesota

A Chippewa Indian from the reservation. How he came to us, we never knew--just walked quietly into the office and stood there. Hardly spoke half a dozen sentences--answered my enquiries "Yes" - "No," but with a pleasant friendly smile. He built the house and that's about all we ever heard from him. In 1940 a White Earth girl took a roll of Kodak snaps for me. There it was, all very familiar, quite and original project, homey and human. Its unusual features must have created quite a stir "on the reservation."
